Wood Leather Shopping List Board

"Add it to the shopping list."

I heard myself saying this repeatedly to my kids this summer.  To which they would respond,

"But where is the shopping list?"

and then I would have to give detailed instructions such as on the counter next to the tissue box or some other guided information.  By the time I was done explaining where the shopping list was they would have forgotten what they wanted to add to the list.  And then they would get mad at me for not buying said item at the store when it wasn't even on the list to begin with.

I'm finally got off this merry-go-round by making a wood and leather shopping list board with a paper roll.  It's perfectly placed smack between the refrigerator and pantry and hung low enough so all my kids can reach it.

I'll show you how to make this wood and leather shopping list board down below.

Everyone can add whatever their little heart desires to the shopping list now.

P is for Pincushion with Wood Base

diy quilted pincushion with wood base

quilted pincushion with wood base

This is one project I've been thinking about for a long time and finally put myself to the task while feeling quite under the weather this week to do much of anything else.

Raid your fabric scraps to make the cutest pincushion and then I'll show you how to attach it to a solid 4x4 wood base for stability and weight.  Anytime you can combine fabric and wood in a project is a win / win in my book!

The finished size on the squares is 3/4" but the whole pincushion measures about 4" square and just over 2" tall.

I posted these in my etsy shop here but I show you how to make your own down below.

V is for Vintage Quilt Makeover

vintage quilts girls bedroom

How I took a vintage quilt (that was never quilted) and made it into two proper quilts for my girls beds, if only their great great grandmother knew where her quilt was today!

vintage quilt top

I received this very thin handpieced quilt from my mother about 10 years ago.  It actually came from her father's home and was made by his mother so now this vintage quilt will span 5 generations.

I cut the quilt in half to make two quilts, gave them a proper backing with batting and then quilted them to enhance the star pattern.  I sure hope my great grandmother is pleased with the transformation.

L is for Loft Space Makeover

loft space with ceiling beams

Another peek into our home today and we're up on the second floor in the loft space.  Two weeks ago I shared the backstairs and upstairs hallway space and that leads us to the front stairs and loft space.

To be honest this makeover really only needed paint and a new light fixture.  Unfortunately I don't have a before picture of the light but it was straight from 1984 with smoky glass and actually came down shortly after we moved in 18 months ago because I couldn't live with it.

Today the space is bright and fresh and clearly the highlight here are those exposed wood beams which are about 275 years old.  (Our house was built around 1740.)  I painted the walls Benjamin Moore simply white and the trim is London Fog.

That one horizontal beam makes the perfect ledge for books.  I used the kids diy book ends from Emma's build it birthday party here to hold up the books.

DIY Hanging Lantern

Yes this post is titled DIY hanging lanterns and my lanterns aren't even hanging in the picture.  That's okay, you get the idea that you definitely could hang them.  The glass jar is glued in place and that's a battery operated candle so no fear of fire.

Let's make these hanging lanterns because I'm sharing the free plans today.
