DIY Shoe Storage Bench

diy shoe storage bench free plans

Hello friends.  Who's thinking about clearing out all that clutter now that the holidays are over?  I'm right there with you, it's overwhelming and chaotic and you just want to clear the decks and start fresh.

Today I'm sharing a diy shoe storage bench with free plans made specifically to fit four large crates.  These crates corral and contain all the shoes, hats, gloves and mudroom accessories plus the bench provides a nice spot to sit while putting on those shoes.

I've team up with Crates & Pallet to bring you this shoe storage bench plan.  We will use four of the large crates for this build but Crates & Pallet makes all types of crates, various sizes and shapes, you'll want to check out all the options.

To get you started on clearing the clutter Crates & Pallet is offering a giveaway to one lucky reader for a Home Depot $50 gift card!  If the holiday mess isn't motivation enough to clear the clutter than perhaps this giveaway will get you going.

Deck the Halls Mantel DIY Spindle Candle Holders

repurposed spindles, simple Christmas mantel decor

How I repurposed old spindles into candle holders and went beserks on the mantel for Christmas 2015.  My buildy friend Jen at The House of Wood is hosting Deck the Halls DIY Style and today is my day to share.

Jen hosted a similar series last December when we shared our DIY tables, there are some beautiful ideas there, but this year the focus is mantels or vignettes and I choose to repurpose some twisty old spindles into candle holders and flood my mantel with candles.

old railing spindles before

I've had these spindles for at least 5 years with no project in mind.  The twisted shape attracted me long ago and I've just held on to them, in all there were about 30 spindles.  Reluctantly I cut them into shorter pieces trusting my project would work out.

And now they fill our Living Room mantel with a sea of glossy, red, twisted wood spindly goodness!

Down below I'll show you how I repurposed the spindles and made them into candle holders.

DIY Beauty Organizer

diy beauty organizer

Happy Friday friends!  As we are nearing ever closer to the big day (who's ready? yikes!!) I continue to share gift build projects as part of the Handbuilt Holiday series with Ana White.  Today we are bringing you this beautiful and extremely functional organizer:

diy beauty organizer

It's a beauty organizer, a desk organizer, a desktop vanity, makeup organizer - you decide but either way it can be made entirely from scrap wood and takes no time to build.

diy gifts to build

Ana White and I have shared 9 gift builds so far this series.  As we near the last few weeks the builds will become smaller and more simple because we know you're tight on time but that doesn't mean you can't make an amazing gift from wood!

K is for Kids Cubby Organizer One Board Project

We have seven birthday parties next week during the last week of school.  Yes seven.  Instead of running to the store to buy more plastic toys wrapped in plastic I pillaged my scrap wood pile and built a kids cubby organizer.

This is a one board project meaning you could build this organizer from one (1x4) eight foot board which costs about $5.  Or you could use scrap wood and then it's a free project.

Two down, five to go!

I'm sharing the free plans down below including materials, cut list and step by step instructions.

Mail Sorter

Nothing fancy today folks, just a simple mail sorter I built for my neighbor.  I thought I'd share the plans because it's a build with purpose that might be useful to some readers.

My neighbor has three kids so she wanted a mail slot for each one.  The boxes are 12" wide x 7" deep so plenty of space for papers and notes, especially once school starts up again!

Field Day Station Signs

While summer is now in full swing and most field day events are long over I still thought I would share how I made the field day station signs for our school and you can pin for later.

These station signs are completely portable, self standing and the game names are interchangeable which makes them reusable from year to year.

To make 8 station signs I used the follow supplies:

8 - 2x3x8 studs
2 - 2x8x12 boards
1 sheet - 1/2" plywood
16 hooks and eyes
2 1/2" & 1 5/8" exterior wood screws
2" finish nails

Follow the step by step instructions below to build your own field day station signs:
