Exciting Announcement I Just Filmed Two New Jewelry Instruction Videos!

I love spreading good news. And boy, do I have some good news! 

Late last evening I returned home to Pennsylvania after flying out to Colorado to film
 two brand new jewelry instruction videos at the film studios at F+W Media, Inc., my 
fabulous publisher! It was a whirlwind three days! Yup, I flew about 3,166.4 miles to
 film two videos, just for you!  I traveled on a Monday, filmed two videos on Tuesday, and
 traveled home Wednesday. Four flights across the United States, four different airports, 
 three days later, and its all done! 

Colorado is a beautiful place, and the landscape is quite different from what I am used 
to in Pennsylvania, so it was a new experience for me in many different ways. This was
 also my first time on camera...I wasnt very nervous, it was more like I didnt know exactly what to expect, exactly what it would be like. Kind of like when youre going to have a baby.
 You can read and prepare all you want, but until it actually happens, you dont know exactly
how its going to be until you experience it for real, right as its happening!

I will write more about the videos in a future blog post, but I will tell you now that the first 
video teaches you how to make an awesome broken china jewelry necklace, and the second 
video teaches you my new technique for combining wire with soft solder to create a beautiful
 and amazing jewelry effect! If you love to make jewelry, or always wanted to learn how to

Well its past my bedtime and I need to get some much needed sleep so that I can get my two

I Have An Exciting Announcement To Make

I havent had time to blog lately because I have a lot going on over here...
...so much in fact, that it is almost dizzying! 

Since the release of my jewelry book, BoHo Chic Jewelry,  I have been very busy 

trying to carve out time to create new jewelry for my Etsy shop, basically trying to 

play catch-up, but I dont feel like I am making much progress because it always seems 

that by the time I finish up a new piece of jewelry or two (and it is time consuming!), 

photograph it, and list it in my shop, it is sold! Of course thats a good thing though, 

and I am so grateful to all of my wonderful customers who enjoy my work, those of you 

who want it for yourselves to wear, or as gifts for friends or family. I thank you :)
Know that I make every piece just for you. 

Thats where I have been, and I promise, very soon, that I will be back to creating

lots of new pretty pieces of china jewelry as well as stirring up some fun new blog

posts in the near future. But!!! I have an exciting announcement to share! :)

The reason Ive been so busy is that I recently received my second book deal to write 
another jewelry instruction book - Yay! So I have been very hard at work writing and 

creating new projects to share for the new book! I cant give away too much top

secret information about it just yet, but I will tell you that the projects are so

unique and beautiful, and I am so excited to share these new ideas and techniques!

Painting Acorns With Laura and Duane

Last week my boyfriend Duane came over to my house with a big bag of acorns! Yay!

 We were going to paint them, so he collected a big bag full for us...but first I had to get them

prepped and ready for painting. I put them into a colander in my kitchen sink and rinsed

them with water, washing off any dirt and mud. Next I towel dried them and spread 

them all out on a large cookie sheet (use one that has a lip, such as a jelly roll pan) and

I baked them in a warm oven at 200 degrees for at 30-60 minutes to dry them out. 

After I turned off the oven, I let the acorns sit in the oven to cool. 

When we were ready to paint our acorns, we covered the table with 

newspaper and put the acorns in a big bowl. 

We didnt use any fancy supplies. I had some acrylic paints on hand

in a variety of colors, so we used those, along with a variety of craft

paint brushes. A plate or piece of cardboard serves as a great palette. You really

 only need a small amount of paint because, well, acorns are pretty small :)

 Glasses go on to paint, and off when he starts taking photos!

 The easiest acorns to paint were the ones that had a little bit of stem.

That gave us a place to hold onto them!

...but of course we still got paint all over our hands :)

I found that you need a pretty steady hand to avoid getting paint on

the acorn cap! 

 Once we painted the acorns, we placed them onto a piece of 

wax paper and set them aside to dry. 

I think we both agreed that the turquoise ones were pretty awesome!

 Once they dry you can coat them with mod podge or another sealant. 

I think his pumpkin house was the best one!

We used the toothpick to try and swirl around the

paint on a few of them.

I found that if you paint them orange they look like pumpkins!
